Your Questions, Answered

From setup and celestial navigation to maintenance and future upgrades, we address the common questions amateur astronomers have when choosing a capable reflector telescope for serious stargazing.
The SpaceProbe 130ST is a reflector telescope with a 130mm aperture and 650mm focal length (f/5). It uses an equatorial mount, which is excellent for tracking stars and planets. Its parabolic mirror is a key feature for clear, sharp images of deep-sky objects.
While the 130ST is an excellent choice for its aperture and value, other options like the SkyQuest Dobsonian series offer even larger apertures for deep-sky viewing on a simpler mount. For a complete computerized option, Orion also offered the SkyQuest IntelliScope models.
The telescope comes with a 25mm and a 10mm Plossl eyepiece, covering low to medium magnification. A smartphone adapter is included for basic astrophotography. You may want to add a higher-power eyepiece (e.g., 6mm) for detailed planetary viewing later.
Assembly involves attaching the optical tube to the mount and setting up the tripod. The included Orion Deep Map and Moon Map are invaluable for locating objects. Start with familiar constellations like the Big Dipper and practice using the slow-motion controls for smooth tracking.
For best performance, regularly check that all screws are snug. Keep the optical surfaces clean using only a lens brush or specific optical tissues—never use household cleaners. Store the telescope in a dry place to prevent dust buildup on the mirror.
The SpaceProbe 130ST is a superb step up from a starter telescope. It offers the light-gathering power to see faint deep-sky objects and the optical quality for detailed views of planets, providing a clear path for you to develop your observing skills over time.
